Sizing values are labeled planning bands — the required design is set by a licensed designer and your local health department.
The sizing chain, end to end
Every septic design is the same four numbers in a row. Bedrooms set the minimum tank (a 1,000-gallon tank lines up with a 3-bedroom house — and if yours is already in the ground, the reverse lookup is in 1,000-gallon tank: how many bedrooms). Occupants set the design flow in gallons per day (daily wastewater flow). The perc test sets the soil loading rate (percolation test calculator), and flow ÷ loading rate is the absorption area (absorption area) that becomes trench length and laterals (trench length).
